Last Night

So last night all of the KU freshmen and exchange students had a special orientation... for cheering. Haha and it sounds so stupid, but my KU buddy Cecilia told me that at sports events (especially when we are playing against our rival: Yonsei University) that everyone does these special cheers that have a song and dance everyone does. Group things like this are serious stuff here. But it's also super cool how they want to bring everyone together into the KU community.

But this is how serious this was:
  1. This practice event was FOUR HOURS LONG. For real. From 5:00 pm- 9:00pm.
  2. Even at this practice, they still went all out and had people in costumes, mascots, flag people, streamers shooting out of cannons, smoke, and pyrotechnics. Yes: there was pyrotechnics. And this isn't even the real deal yet.
Even if you can't learn the Korean lyrics (ahem, aka me) then you can still learn all the dance moves. There are a lot of them. My favourite is probably the "Oppa KU Style" (as a take on Gangnam Style).
Here are some videos because words can't really do this event justice:

They gave us all bags for an additional cheering method lol.

This video is a little later on, so the stadium is more full. Notice the pyrotechnics at the very beginning.

So I guess you could say it was pretty crazy. I don't really know the songs yet, but the dances are easy to catch on to. My camera didn't really pick up on the sound, but it was so noisy in the stadium because everyone was yelling and singing. I give their school spirit an A+.

Here is also a picture of some food I ate in Myeongdong on the weekend. This is a mandu (dumpling) soup with the side dishes (left to right: kimchi, a sort of turnip with sauce (?), and some other sauce to add to the soup). It was SUPER YUMMY.

:D
I am loving the food here so far. The Korean food is all SO delicious but also SO cheap. The meal in the picture only cost me 6000 won (about $5.50). Another thing I find cool is that when something is posted with a price, there is no additional tax because the tax has already been factored in. So it is really nice to not have to calculate tax on top of your purchases.

So yeah. Hope you all are doing well too! I heard the 'Peg just got a bunch of snow. That's too bad. It was sunny and like +7 here. Not that I'm bragging or anything. :P
